When remediating a leach field that has been affected a salt-based water softener, and sometimes when working with greywater and blackwater or disturbed soils, salt tolerant plants are needed to begin remediation of the soil while tolerating the high saline content that may be present.

Here, we have listed a variety of New Mexico natives that can tolerate more salt than most. Please be mindful that though these may be better suited to high salinity, it is still recommended to avoid using powdered detergents in home greywater systems.
